The saga begins with Clothilde “Tilly” Cochrane, the daughter of a runaway American slave and a wealthy Scottish merchant. Orphaned as an infant and caught between two worlds that will never fully accept her.

Logan Devine, Earl of Devine, a cultivated, calculating incubus carrying a lineage bound by ancient rivalries that predate his title and mankind. He leads Tilly into depths of Victorian and supernatural society where decadence and danger bleed together.

Devine Intervention starts The Devine Saga: grounded historical fiction with supernatural darkness, suspense, and romantic elements—but this is not a genre romance. Relationships develop through consequence, not convention, and without a trope or pacing checklist in sight.

A Note from the Author

My name is Jayne Marlowe, and I’m a Black woman writing the type of Gothic historical fiction I’ve always wanted to read, where mixed-race heroines exist authentically, not superficially, and where heritage isn’t erased or softened for comfort.

This serial is written for a mature general audience and contains period-accurate language and attitudes when necessary. Not in excess or for shock value, but for the sake of veracity.

If you seek sanitized historical fiction, genre romance, or virtuous characters, this isn’t that story—and that’s the point. If you cannot handle or accept this, the mature thing for you to do is go in peace and read something else closer to your liking.

I’m creating The Devine Saga to prove that readers—and authors—can enjoy something not written “to market” without asking for permission. I know my work won’t appeal to everyone, but it will speak deeply to someone, and that is what matters to me.
